last night we went out to tea at a restaurant with a Texas theme... the waitresses wore denim mini skirts and tartan tops and the owner sat out the front telling people how awesome the meat was and that is was imported all the way from America. we decided to give Vietnamese food a rest for the night and try something western. i had tacos and Ewen had a hamburger. it was OK but no where near as good as the owner made it out to be. and since when do tacos come from Texas anyway...? while we were there they were playing King Ralph on HBO without the sound so we ended up coming back to our hotel room and watching that and then some movie that ended up been subliminally religious. we also found an actual supermarket (a rarity in Vietnam) so i stocked up on toiletries and lollies and Ewen got chocolates.
This morning we got up early (6.30am) to be at our tour by 7.30. yesterday we booked a tour to go snorkelling at some islands near Nha Trang, we were told there would be a maximum of 20 people on the tour, turned out there were only three of us! and only me and ewen were snorkelling, the other guy was learning how to scuba dive. so that turned out to be really good, me and ewen just did our own thing checking out all the fishies and coral. only bad thing about the day was that our "waterproof" camera died 5 minutes into our swim. the screen filled up with water and it just stopped working so if anyone from reillys is reading this i would like a refund please!!!! also a bit of tech advice if anyone has it, i put the sd card from the camera in my laptop and i can see the film strip of the photos but when i open them individually i can only see a strip at the top the rest is grey and it wont let me copy them or move them onto my computer, anyone know if there is a way to fix it or are the photos a lost cause???
the snorkeling was great, we saw lots and lots of fish, ewen saw a big eel and i thought i saw a shark... turned out to be a scuba diver! lucky i didnt tell anyone about that one! we snorkelled in two different spots around an island, one with lots of other boats of snorkellers and one where it was just us which was nice.
after this we had lunch at a resturant which was inculded in the price.
there was more staff than custoemrs on our boat. four staff to three customers. one driver, one scuba instructor, a girl who we booked our tickets through but didnt seem to have much to do today and a boy who slept a lot and took the ropes away when it was time for us to leave each spot. the girl had dreadlocks that went nearly to her feet, no kidding!!! it was crazy, and her hair was at least twice as thick as mine! don't know how she does it in this heat! although my hair is basically one big dreadlock today!
since getting back from snorkeling at about 2pm we havent done anything, i've been on the computer the whole time researching how we should spend our last week in Vietnam, ive decided we dont have enough time here, ideally we would leave Nha Trang tomorrow to spend two days in Dalat and then do a four day easy rider tour from Dalat to Mui Ne to Saigon and then spend four days in Nha Trang, sadly we are about three days short for that plan to come into effect. so instead the new plan is to get the early bus to Dalat tomorrow, spend two nights there before getting another bus to Saigon and spending five nights in Saigon doing two day trips (one to Mekong, one to Cu Chi tunnels) and then we fly into Cambodia on the 20th.
having an easy night again tonight, we are felling very old in this town of partiers (i was asleep by 9pm last night) but its a bit hard for old folk like us to party when we have to be at 6.30am both nights we are here!!
i'll tell you all about Dalat tomorrow night!
Peace out from hippie Piet (due to my dreadlocked hair)
xoxoxox
here are two photos of SOME of the hair i had to rip out in order to untangle my hair

I will ring about your camera tomorrow pieta and get dean to email you. snorkelling sounds great.
So no bootskooting at the the Texan restaurant then - just as well!!! Snorkeling trip sounds wonderful glad to hear the shark was a snorkeler - relief there - how frustrating about the camera, always the way when you want to film something. Obviously haven't been turned off bus trips then, good luck and enjoy your next journey lovexxx
Swimming with the fishies is fun and when you see the things we are brought up to be scared of - sharks, it is a worry - lucky it just another diver. Look forward to the next part of the trip you are obviouslty loving it! Dadadenko
I'm pretty sure Tacos are not Texan...I can't imagine snorkelling atm, it is freezing in Bendigo!!
Poor Pietas hair!!
