Sorry Mum & Dad but I'm moving to Ireland

We spent today doing basically the same as yesterday except that today we explored the other side of the river.
we had a delicious breakfast where the staff here make omelets fresh for each person before setting off to explore a castle overlooking the beach. After a bit of a climb we were rewarded with magnificent views over the Mediterranean Sea.
Ewen standing in one of the windows, the cliff drops straight down into the ocean
on the other side of this window.
some of the remaining castle walls, it would have been quite a feat to build this castle as it is literally built on the edge of a cliff.
views out over the sea

Ewen doing a bit of exploring, he climbed onto a massive rock (a boulder i suppose you could call it) that jutted out over the sea, only thing was once he got up there he had a hard time getting down and ended up scraping his knee

another photo of the view, the water here is just breathtakingly blue!
This is a bike we found when walking on the beach on our way to the castle,
not sure if you can make it out or not in this photo

we walked along the opposite side of the river to yesterday and explored an amphitheater, i think this was the one that had been pretty much destroyed in an earthquake so all that remained was part of the stage and some of the seating, but most had crumbled away.

this was the entrance into the amphitheater
all that remains of the stage
here is what is left of the seating

After this we continued through the forest looking for the Roman Bath which i think i read on the sign was the first ever bath but Ewen informs me this is unlikely to be true.
here are the baths, inside those archways were rooms with three walls. it was just after Ewen took this photo and we were walking along the path you can see that Ewen told me he had seen something crawl off the path and thought is was a lizard. i freaked out and looked in the bushes (i have been on snake alert for two days now, tramping through all this forest) and saw not one but two snakes!! they poked their heads up right in front of me!!! I turned around and ran (if you know me you know this is my usual reaction to seeing a snake) and not until i was a safe distance away did i tell Ewen to run away. He stomped around a poked a stick into the bushes while i freaked out. two girls came in behind him and he told them about the snakes. the girls started taking photos so Ewen did as well. Meanwhile i am freaking out a short distance away, too embarrassed to yell at Ewen to hurry up and too scared to stand alone or run away alone.
TWO SNAKES! what the hell!!!!! One of the girls was from Ireland and she said they don't have any snakes there so that's where i am going to live, Dad you hate snakes, you'll probably come with me :-)
One good part about Ewen taking photos is that i now have proof of what viciously attacked me (in my head anyway)
This photo was taken with the zoom fully in and then I've cropped it so you can see them better so don't worry Pat & Mark Ewen wasn't that close to them, although way too close for my liking!

After finally dragging Ewen away from the snakes, he then wanted to stop to take more photos of ruins but i needed to get back to the hostel, we had to walk for probably half an hour through more forest with over grown paths me having a little panic attack the entire time. Ewen did a very good job of getting me home safely though and i had a lovely relaxing afternoon recovering at the beach.
What a stressful day!
On a different note we are leaving Olympus in the morning to go on a cruise! Yay! Four more days of relaxing on beaches and swimming in the sea, should be awesome! after that we will only have about a week left in Turkey and we plan to see three different places and then back to Istanbul for a day or so so it will be a very busy week, i think we need this cruise to prepare ourselves (and i think i need it to recover from today, snakes don't go on boats right??)
anyway have a lovely long weekend everybody
Missing you all!!!!

After the snakes episode please promise me Pieta you won't let Ewen near the Chimera flames - you know what he is like with fire & flames, probably end up trying to stand right in there, or digging around to make them bigger. Hopefully the sail trip will be lovely relaxing and no hidden nasties! Enjoy, looks fabulous.

what a beautifull looking beach great photos. I think Ireland sounds pretty good. Before I read your blog I was thinking how the hell did you get to Ireland we were only away for 4 days.RULE NO 50 dont go near snakes or walk anywhere they might live. Enjoy your cruise

Love your story about the snakes and your land speed record getting away he he. New Zealand also doesn't have snakes and its closer than Ireland. Your descriptions are wonderful as are the selection of photos. Enjoy the cruise Pete and dont let ewen on the helm - we don't want you aground!
