Lauterbrunnen - Part 3

S-N-O-W  D-A-Y!

We had to get up at 5.30am to leave for the station at 6.30am. We brought the early bird ticket which was about 30 francs cheaper each than going later in the day however this meant we had to catch the 6.59am train up the hill to Jungfrau, the highest point in Europe you can get to without pulling out your hiking boots and poles. The drive up was exciting in itself (in between naps that is) it took 2 hours and as we got closer to the top you could see snow on the tracks and on the grass and hills beside the tracks. We arrived at about 9am and the first thing we did was go to the Plateau to stand on snow for the first time in Switzerland.

Some of the statues in the Ice Palace. most of them (like these ones) looked like they had been there for  a very long time so the shapes had warped a little bit, this one is an Eskimo with a fish looking at him

The most pathetic snow man you have ever seen, without gloves it was pretty difficult yo construct. we attempted to use plastic bags on our hands but it didn't really help.

For some reason we thought it would be hilarious to put a banana in the snow...

It was an incredible morning spent playing in the snow, freezing our butts off. We had to get the 12pm train back (this was a condition of our early bird ticket) but we had plenty of time to explore, it would have been better if we had more appropriate clothing and shoes that way we could have had even more fun in the snow but it was a really fantastic day. i definitely recommend it to everyone if you go to Lauterbrunnen or anywhere in that region. It is expensive but worth it!
