We got to Louvre at about quarter to 9 and lucky we did because the line was already kind of long, although by 9am the line curved right up past the glass pyramid. It was a good day to go to a museum because it was freezing cold and very overcast. we only had to line up for about 20 minutes but that was long enough to nearly freeze us to death!
I was a little uncertain about the Louvre, i definitely wanted to go but i suffer from a very common disease among travelers; museum fatigue. i get it very quickly, after an hour i have usually had enough while Ewen could wander around museums/galleries all day long. Luckily though every room at the Louvre had a different display to the previous one so my child-like mind was kept occupied the whole time we were there. We went straight to the Mona Lisa once we had our tickets figuring we should get there before the hundreds of people in the line behind us and lucky we did, i just managed to squeeze to the front to get some photos and then when we walked back past an hour or so later the entire room was full of people and i would never have been able to get close enough to have a look. the Mona Lisa was a good painting, but when you have seen as many paintings as i have (which is a lot after this trip) its hard to see why it is so famous when other paintings are not.
We also saw the Venus De Milo statue and many many other paintings, sculptures and even some house hold items. Some of my favourite things to look at are the Egyptian jewelry, they had necklaces on display that were over 4000 years old and they had metal clasps pretty much the same as we use today.
that night we went to Ewen's favourite place in Paris, we heard about it from some girls staying in the same dorm as us. it was a steak restaurant. you have to line up to get in, that is how awesomely popular this place is. once you sit down your only option is how you would like your steak cooked and what you want to drink. then they bring you out a salad and once you have finished that you get chips and half of your steak (already cut into bite sized pieces for you) they keep the rest of your steak and chips warming on a stand over tea light candles and when the waitress sees you are finished the first half of your steak they bring out the rest of it for you. it was the best food i have had in a long time! expensive but definitely worth it. also when we were lining up to get in behind us we could see the Eiffel tower sparkling away which was pretty incredible.
after leaving the restaurant (reluctantly) we walked towards the Eiffel tower to watch the lights show. it was very pretty but didn't go for as long as i though it would have. also our camera i a bit of a spaz and had trouble taking photos of the tower all lit up. apart from that it was an incredible night of steak and Eiffel tower goodness

A guy in the line behind us had these crazy hairy cow shoes. It took a lot of sneaky photography skills to get this shot |

I was so obsessed with chandeliers in Europe, so Versailles was heaven. And the crystal and glass shops in Prague and Venice. I'm going to have a house full of them one day :-D
Ohh I miss the Eiffel Tower!
