Madame Tussauds & Markets

Ewen's new jacket
On Saturday we went to Portobello road market in Notting Hill. We didn't get there until about 1pm so by that time it was heaving with locals and tourists alike searching for bargains. i had a great time looking through the hundreds of stalls, we spent about 4 hours there and still didn't get to see the entire market, it is huge! i got myself a new wallet and Ewen got a winter coat for himself, he was ecstatic because its kind of like the one he originally wanted to get made in Vietnam. It's a Royal Marine jacket that looks like it was made just for Ewen. We will definitely be going back to Portabello road market, largely because last time we took the camera but not the camera battery and i want to get some photos of the random stalls and the ridiculous amounts of people shopping.

The market on Brick Lane
People playing Carrom

On Sunday we went to Spitalfields Market, we had learnt our lesson after the market in Notting Hill and this time got up early and arrived at the market at about 10am we spent a few hours wandering around the stalls inside and also outside on Brick Lane. Ewen got a bit excited to see a section set aside for people to play games of Carrom for free. We didn't get a chance because the boards were always being used.

The piece of foam Ewen stole (because Russell Brand touched it)

Monday seemed a good as day as any to subject Ewen to Madame Tussauds. It turned out we both had a lot of fun posing with the random wax celebrities. They even had a Russel Brand wax figure to Ewen's delight (we found out later it had only being unveiled hours before we got there). We got photos with the Harry Potter guy, Robbie from Twilight, Posh and Becks, Brangelina (i hate that term), Johnny Depp, Will Smith, Princess Di, Arnie, Shane Warne, Tiger Woods, Kylie, Britney, The Pope, Hitler and lots more. The last couple of rooms you go through are a bit different to the ones full of wax figures. One of them has everyone get into little black taxis and you go on a ride seeing how London has changed over the years and the very last room has wax figures of serial killers through the ages and then a haunted house you walk through while people jump out yelling and snorting at you. After Madame Tussauds we got the tube to Oxford street because i needed to buy a winter coat. As we walked through Piccadily Circus to Leicester Square we decided to try to get tickets to show a theater performance called War Horse for that night, having no luck finding tickets we could afford we decided to go to the information centre to see if we had more luck there, on the way we noticed a large stage set up with heaps of people crowded around. it turned out to be a film premier of Despicable Me and a couple of the stars from the movie were there. We ended up getting to see Steve Carrell and Russell Brand. The highlight for everyone but us seemed to be the arrival of Jason Donavon who appeared to be there purely for the publicity opportunity (he admitted to having nothing to do with the
movie and not having any idea what the movie was about). we spent probably an hour there eventually working our way to the front of the crowds in time to catch a glimpse of Steve Carrell and Russell Brand (to Ewen's immense excitement).
